This painting was a commission, so I was working to a brief for a change. Margo doesn't make this announcement on these stairs but Charlie's memory of the film had connected the two iconic aspects. The characteristic glass and cigarette were also appropriated from other scenes to complete the portrait. The film was made in black and white but I got colour reference from publicity photos.
