Acrylic on board 540 x 405 mm Michael Cadman was one of my tutors at Epsom Art School. He reminded me of Gulley Jimson in The Horse's Mouth. Once, when I was starting a painting of St Francis with a green wash, Cadman told me "You should always start with a burnt umber wash." I didn't agree, but I thought it an apt phrase for his portrait, which I didn't start with a burnt umber wash. |
