I remember deciding that Napoleon had a round face when I painted this in 1957, aged thirteen. It was important enough for me to draw the outline of his face with a pair of compasses. The pin hole is just visible beneath the right eyebrow. I was inspired by seeing 'War and Peace' at the Rialto, Raynes Park with Herbert Lom as Napoleon.
