On 30 September, 1955 James Dean was driving his Porsche 550 Spyder, nicknamed 'Little Bastard', along US Route 466 to Salinas, California. A car coming towards him crossed his lane at a junction and the two collided almost head on. Dean was dead on arrival at hospital. Seven days before, Alec Guinness had warned him, "If you get into that car, you will be dead by this time next week."
